Is Your Automobile Being Recalled?

Auto-Graveyard-13333715

After paramedics near Orlando found 51-year-old Hien Tran dying in her 2001 Honda Accord in September, police launched a murder investigation. Initially it looked like an assailant had slashed Ms. Tran’s throat. But only several days later, a notice from Honda showed up in Ms. Tran’s mail. It was a recall notification about the Honda’s defective airbags. Investigators realized that the airbag in her car had exploded and that sharp shrapnel was the cause of Ms. Tran’s death. She’s at least the third person to die in the U.S. linked to defective airbags made by the Takata Corporation. Eleven manufacturers have now recalled more than twelve million vehicles with Takata airbags. If a defective airbag – or any other defective auto part – causes you to be injured in the Chicago area, speak at once with an experienced Chicago product liability lawyer about obtaining compensation for your injury and related expenses.

Be sure that your own vehicle is not on a recall list. Take it immediately to the nearest dealer if it is, and obtain a repair or a replacement. Honda openly acknowledges more than thirty injuries and at least two deaths have been linked to the Takata airbags, and the company recently recalled about two million of its vehicles. Automakers continue to purchase airbags from Takata despite the company’s worrisome safety record; millions of cars were recalled in the 1990s with defective seatbelts made by the company.

The current problem is the canister that makes the airbags inflate; it can explode with no warning. If you’ve been injured because of an airbag or any defective auto part, speak to a good product liability lawyer who can help you file a product liability claim. You may be able to receive reimbursement for your medical care and other injury-related expenses. In the Chicago area, if you’re injured now or in the future, contact an experienced Chicago product liability lawyer immediately.
